Shiropichu

Shiropichu at Utpala Ayurdhama

Shiropichu is a therapeutic Ayurvedic treatment primarily focused on alleviating various conditions affecting the head and scalp. It involves applying a medicated cloth or cotton pad soaked in herbal oils over the scalp, particularly at the crown area (Shiro). The term “Pichu” means padding or soaking, which refers to the method of soaking the cotton or cloth in oil and applying it to the scalp.

This therapy is highly beneficial in pacifying Vata and Pitta doshas and is commonly used to treat headaches, stress, hair problems, neurological disorders, and insomnia. At Utpala Ayurdhama, we offer personalized Shiropichu treatments as part of our holistic wellness approach.

What is Shiropichu?

Shiropichu is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment where a cotton pad or cloth soaked in medicated oil is placed on the crown of the head and held in position for an extended period. The process helps the body absorb the therapeutic properties of the herbal oil, which nourishes the scalp and calms the mind.

The treatment is especially useful for conditions caused by imbalanced Vata and Pitta doshas, and it is believed to provide deep relaxation to the mind while supporting neurological and mental health. The oil used in Shiropichu can vary depending on the specific health needs of the patient and may include herbal formulations like Brahmi oil, Nalpamaradi taila, Ksheerabala taila, and Chandanadi taila.

The Shiropichu Procedure

  1. Preparation: The patient is made to sit or lie down comfortably in a calm, relaxed environment. The head is gently massaged with herbal oils to prepare for the treatment.
  2. Soaking the Pichu: A piece of cotton or cloth pad is soaked in medicated herbal oil. The oil is warmed to a comfortable temperature to ensure better absorption and relaxation.
  3. Application: The soaked cotton pad or cloth is placed directly on the crown of the head or the affected area. The pad is gently pressed to ensure that the oil spreads evenly across the scalp.
  4. Duration: The medicated cotton pad is kept in place for 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the condition being treated and the patient’s specific needs.
  5. Post-Treatment Care: After the therapy, the scalp may be massaged lightly with additional oil. The patient is advised to relax, and after a short rest, they may wash their head with warm water using herbal cleansers.
