Avagaha means ‘submerged’ in Sanskrit. During Avagaha Sweda treatment, the patient is made to sit in the neck- or navel-deep medicated decoctions for a specified period of time.
This comes under local treatment modalities and is commonly done for diseases of the genito- urinary system in males and females, diseases of the colon and rectum, and also for low back ache, weakness, and numbness of the lower half of the body.
The level of water in the tub used for this is decided depending upon the patient’s health and the body part being treated.
Avagaha Sweda is commonly prescribed for the treatment of Vata-related issues.
